2009 Hill Country Trail Race at Serenbe
This is the unofficial 15K racecourse for the 2009 Hill Country Trail Race, held on Sat. Nov 14 at Serenbe, a community in the Chattahoochee Hill Country of south Fulton County, GA. \n\n There was a simultaneous 5K race that began and ended at the same place as the 15K. \n\n The Hill Country and Serenbe in particular are among the most beautiful areas in metro Atlanta and make a spectacular venue for this event. The course itself begins in the Serenbe village and follows the town's main road for the first mile. At that point, runners venture off-road to experience some of the most challenging terrain around. Don't let the elevation map fool you, there are a lot of steep hills; the climb around the 2 mile mark is a tough one. \n\n Runners experience a variety of terrain and trail surfaces on this course. There are gravel paths, muddy four-wheeling roads, leaf-covered hiking trails, open fields including an abandoned airstrip, several plank bridges, and one stream crossing. There was only one short rock outcropping that I can remember. \n\n Trackpoints were downloaded from my GPS and are as accurate as can be expected. I have made some corrections to the path, where it was clear from the aerial photos that the trackpoints were off. The heavy tree cover and the winding trails mean that the trackpoints are more inaccurate than usual, and the map probably underestimates the true length. \n\n I was a participant in the race and am not affiliated with its organizers or sponsors. - a 9.1 mi running route in Palmetto, Georgia
